5 THINGS I WISH I KNEW BEFORE STARTING UNI!

Hey Loves!

Today I’m going to do a post about the things I wish I knew before I started uni, this post is a part of my back to school/uni series. I know this post is predominately aimed at students starting university but stick around and follow my blog to see some back to school/uni posts that are for everyone! I have a stationery haul going up on Wednesday and a special guest post on Friday!

EVERYONE IS IN THE SAME BOAT AS YOU!

I guess I’m starting off with a cliche but it’s just so true and I never believed people when they said this to me up until I experienced it myself. No matter where you come from, what you’ve studied, what experiences you have – none of that matters when you’re there at that university along with several others, all of you are now going to be studying the same thing. You’ll all be nervous, none of you will know anyone, you have no idea how things are going to work, you’re scared, worried, excited and anxious all at the same time but so is everyone else so it’s okay to feel that way. Honestly I remember my first day and I could see the nerves on everyone’s faces and in a way, that made me feel a bit better. Also SMILE at everyone, it’ll help you and them!

ENJOY YOUR COURSE AND HAVE NO REGRETS!

I have friends doing all sorts of different things and from what I’ve seen, the ones who chose to do something they truly love, are the ones loving their uni life. Obviously you must be thinking, duh they must have liked that course enough to choose it but honestly, 18 is such a young age to make such a big decision and if you don’t have the right people giving you advice, you might just end up doing something just for the sake of it. Also, please don’t spend the duration of your degree worrying about what comes next because what’s meant to happen will without you even realising, and I’m honestly saying this from the heart because I found myself worrying about the future from the first year of my degree when that was meant to be the best year for me. I love my course and wouldn’t change anything and I wish someone told me to just enjoy and relax, especially my first year!

DON’T HAVE AN UNREALISTIC VIEW OF THINGS!

I think a lot of people create a perception of how university is going to be like and I think I did, I think I’m just too influenced by movies if I’m honest and it didn’t turn out how I imagined it. There’s that view that your uni friends will be your best friends for life but I know people who haven’t even made friends at uni. Also, you think you’re going to be so social and that you’re going to do so many things you haven’t done before but in reality, you won’t even have time to do that many things. I’m not saying I was disappointed by my actual experience vs how I thought it would be like but I just wish someone had told me how it actually was, so I didn’t have this idealisitic view of it in my mind.

YOU NEED TO WORK OUT WHICH REVISION TECHNIQUE WORKS FOR YOU!

Personally, before uni I never had a revision technique, I just did past exam papers and read up on topics but you can’t do that at uni because past papers aren’t a thing – for my degree at least; so I was forced to experiment with revision techniques and I think I’ve finally found what works for me, I am doing a revision/study post SOON so don’t worry, I’ll talk about this topic more in that post but generally what I’m saying is, it’s okay to be overwhelmed with the workload and confused on how you’re going to process this information, you just need to find your flow and once you do, it’s absolutely fine.

YOU ARE NOT SPOON FED AT ALL!

I remember EVERYONE saying that I won’t be spoon fed during A-Levels and in all honesty, I was spoon fed throughout my A-Levels, my teachers always helped me, they did revision sessions, they gave me resources, they answered my questions and took time out for me but university is a whole different ball game. Take my course for example, there about 100 people on the course, the lecturer probably doesn’t even know my name, they just deliver and leave us to it. You can email them and ask them to expand on something but they probably will take forever and a day to reply.

So that’s all for this blogpost, thank you so much for reading and I hope you found this blogpost interesting! Let me know your thoughts and feel free to follow me on my social media sites to stay up to date with me! Have a lovely day!
